A range of resources were produced for the Rheumatic Fever Awareness Campaigns (2014–2017). Many of the resource files can be downloaded or viewed online to support your awareness activities, including online videos, radio commercials, pull-up banners, posters, sticker charts, colouring pages and more. A number of the resources are available in Samoan, Tongan and te reo Māori.
The Rheumatic Fever Awareness Campaigns aimed to create national awareness about the importance of getting sore throats checked and treated as quickly as possible to prevent Rheumatic Fever. Resources in this section are targeted at parents, families and caregivers of children at risk of Rheumatic Fever. National incidence of Rheumatic Fever showed that Pacific and Māori children were the most at risk groups in New Zealand.
Key messages, developed by the Ministry of Health, were prioritised and turned into ‘calls-to-action’ for a range of communication channels designed to engage audiences. These calls-to-action were tested in focus groups with parents and caregivers from at risk communities.

The antibiotics sticker chart, developed by Workbase for the Ministry of Health, shows how antibiotics work to kill strep throat germs over the course of the 10 days it takes to kill them all. Children can add a sticker each day for 10 days to encourage completion of their prescription.

They aimed to help shape conversations with families, to empower families to keep their homes warmer and drier, and prevent germs from spreading.
The information was initially in discussion cards, alongside supporting videos featuring real families sharing what they do in their homes to keep them warmer and drier, and prevent germs from spreading. Further formats and language versions were added to the toolkit to serve a wider range of settings.

Key Tips for a Warmer, Drier Home Discussion Cards are for Health Professionals. The discussion cards were designed to help shape conversations with families, empowering them to keep their homes warmer and drier, and prevent germs from spreading. They were created with a range of health and service providers, and Māori, Tongan and Samoan communities. Each Key Tip also gives a reason why the tip is important to do.
Print option: This is a hi-res print ready pdf with bleed and crop marks – suitable for professional printing, print full colour on 300gsm Matt Laminate, double-sided, trim to A4 and drill top left hand corner and apply 'O' ring.

Much of the strength of the Rheumatic Fever campaign can be credited to the real and very personal stories shared by real families. These stories are precious – they are a taonga from the people themselves and need to be honoured and respected.
We have committed to treasure these families’ stories and images. This means the images will not be made available to providers to use in their own advertising. However, the ready-made posters featuring the Katoa (twin boys) and McQueen (mum and her two sons) families are available for your use. They cannot be altered. This is in keeping with contractual agreements with the families.
The radio stories are also taonga and should be honoured and respected in the same way. Again, these are available for continued use, but only in the forms provided.

The only Katoa or McQueen family advertising/resources that can be used are posters, which are contained in this catalogue.

Indesign is a software program used by graphic designers and advertising agencies to create quality files to produce resources and advertising. Indesign files enable a designer to manipulate the images and type easily and produce professional-quality outputs. Indesign files are recognised by the suffix .indd.
You can supply your graphic designer with the Indesign files. Or you can contact our experienced supplier, GSL Promotus, for a quote to do any design work you need. GSL Promotus holds all the campaign files.
The rheumatic fever awareness campaign focuses on prevention, and therefore doesn’t focus on symptoms of rheumatic fever. The only resource in this catalogue that talks about rheumatic fever symptoms is the Informational Video. Please use this resource to raise awareness about the impacts of rheumatic fever and how it occurs.
Auckland District Health Board (ADHB) has also produced three informational videos on rheumatic fever with consistent messaging.

GSL Promotus is the advertising agency that has created all advertising and resource elements since 2014. It has a strong understanding of the audience and the messages. GSL Promotus is a well-established, fully accredited, independently-owned advertising agency based in Wellington. It will have all files archived so can be contacted to assist with any advertising or resource development and/or media placement.
Oceania Communications 2000 Ltd is a Pacific-led communications company with representation in both Auckland and Wellington. It is experienced in all aspects of communications. For the Rheumatic Fever programme OC2000 has been providing social media strategy and implementation (in conjunction with GSL Promotus).
Māori Media Network is the central organisation that coordinates media across any or all of the iwi radio stations. It has its own recording facilities and can translate or create advertising (in English or te reo Māori) if required.
